Course Description
Anatomical structure and function which affects treatment planning processes is addressed along with identification of anatomic structures on radiographs, CT, and MRI images.
Assessments & Activities
This course had nine modules that presented different regions of the body. Each module consisted of professor lead videos and power points, practice problems, American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) lectures, and various quizzes.
For additional resources and practice on anatomy identification and contouring students utilized subscriptions to both ProKnow and IMAISO e-Anatomy. Students were assessed and graded on their performance and participation on practice problems, quizzes provided by both our instructor and the ASRT, and e-portfolio contributions. |
Practice Problems
There were practice problems for each area of the body presented during this course and we were responsible for completing and submitting them for grading.

Self Reflection
At the completion of every course students are asked to reflect on a series of questions that focused on their knowledge gained, skills, areas of opportunity, and overall thoughts about the course.
The new knowledge and skills I gained during this course were...
Although I have previously completed anatomy courses, this course provided greater detail and more information on lymphatic, nerve, and circulatory systems. I will continue to use the knowledge and skills that I gained during this course throughout my career in the medical dosimetry field.
The new knowledge and skills will benefit me...
Understanding anatomy is vital to contouring structures and creating successful treatment plans. Being able to identify structures in the area of interest will allow me to have a better understanding of how and why the physician decided on the treatment volume and the amount of margin that they did.
I struggle with...
Being able to identify veins and arteries on cross-sectional images proved to be a struggle for me. This was especially true for the thorax and abdominal regions of the body.
I feel pretty good about...
I feel very confident about being able to identify structures and vessels in the head and neck regions. In general, I feel good about the major organs and muscles throughout the body, as well.
Other reflective thoughts...
This course was both a great review of material that I have encountered in previous courses and new, more in depth information. The way that this course presented information was well organized and very easy to navigate through. It is extremely obvious just how important understanding anatomy is in radiation therapy and this course did a great job of presenting anatomy of all areas of the body.
