Conference attendance presents many opportunities, including continuing education and networking within the radiation oncology field. Whether it is at a local or national level, it is extremely beneficial to attend conferences to stay current on the rapidly evolving techniques and technology of radiation oncology. Conferences facilitate discussions between colleagues and peers that can lead to improvements in the outcomes for patients.
Weekly Chart Rounds
Dates: Every Thursday from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM: January, 2017-present
Description: At the University of Wisconsin Hospital, weekly chart rounds are held and attended by radiation oncologists, residents, physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists. There are 4 affiliated facilities that attend via the internet. Typically, the residents present patient cases that started their treatments the past week and include the patient's medical history, diagnosis, dose, fractionation, technique used, and any other pertinent information. Those in attendance have the opportunity to discuss the presented cases, acting as a quality assurance check on the plans created and an opportunity to gain insight on other ways of achieving successful plans. I feel that I have gained a great deal of knowledge and information by attending these weekly chart rounds because I am able to hear the discussions and what the physicians are looking for in each plan.
